So you’ve been waiting for that wedding invitation, but it hasn’t come. And now it’s time to accept it – the fact, yes, the cold hard fact – that you haven’t been invited to Will and Kate’s shin-dig at the end of the month. You so wanted to be at the receiving line, take Kate’s hand, and gush over her 18 carat sapphire and diamond engagement ring and say, “Oh Katie, I’m so happy for you!”
Well, Hip Mom is here to tell you to get over it. Our friends, Barack and Michelle, weren’t invited either, and you don’t see them crying. They’re crying over other things, like… well, never mind – this isn’t a pundit blog.
But, hark, good news! Lowly Yank commoner though you are, you can at yet have a bit of the Royal fairy dust sprinkled over you. That’s right, you can have your very own Kate-Middleton-Princess-Di-inspired-faux-sapphire-engagement-ring! We’ve done the research, and present the following as the best places to get your bling on:
The Bradford Exchange: As seen in the USA Weekend ad (right next to the ad for the ever-elegant ladies polyester pantsuits – in four different colors, so attractive, so functional…), this collector’s item retailer is offering the Kate ring for $99.00 + $9.98 S/H, payable in four easy installments of $24.75. Also available – commemorative Will and Kate collector’s plates, framed heart print, ornament, medallion and stamp covers, earrings, and – wait for it – the Kate Middleton porcelain figurine.
Amazon: The biggest of all online retailers is offering several look-alikes for anywhere between $19 and $75, plus shipping. One for $29.99 includes a gift box, but as the site says, “COLOR MAY VARY FOR FREE GIFT BOX.” Wow – this gets our vote for ‘best value.’
Ebay: Need to go cheaper? Cosmique Outlet offers their version for $7.95 + $2.95 S/H. EXPEDITED shipping, no less. They describe this ring as “Exquisitely Handcrafted and Impeccably Brilliant.” It’s in writing – must be true.
So – there it is – three choices, in varying price range. Don’t say we never did anything for you.
